5HP24A won't shift into 4th, incorrect ratio code
HI, I'm new to this car and this forum so please bear with me. This is a 99 A8 I've dropped the pan and found no parts actually it was pretty clean fluid was dirty, pulled all solinoids found blockage in first green one with green o-ring (is this one normally closed and the other 4 normally open?). now it doesn't bang into gear but still nuetrals when it shifts to 4th. I'm thinking somethings wrong in the valvebody? anyone with an atsg manual to point me in the right direction?

Clutch B is for 4th and 5th. You need to test drive it one more time.
This time use the tiptronic. Rev it up in 3rd to 55-60mph, lay off the gas and shift it to 5th. See if it works in 5th gear.

I'll try that, I've had it up to around 75mph in 3rd in tip and it did nothing. I've ohmed all solinoids all 5 ohmed the same. I've rebuilt domestic transmissions and I see no signs so far that this thing needs a total teardown. Maybe I'll just bite the bullett and get a manual.

If the clutch B is gone....
....and it revs shifting into 4th and then goes into the limp home mode, it will show an incorrect gear ratio code.
Do what Tozo states, basically he is saying to "cruise by" 4th gear with no torque on the clutch and then shift to 5th and see if it engages.
If it does, then it's probably something wrong with Clutch B, such as a torn clutch plate housing.

Re: If the clutch B is gone....
Well I drove it this morning and it won't engage in 5th either. Actually I had to shift it a couple times just to get the indicator to move to 5th. I would find it hard to believe that both clutch packs are gone, especially when the pan was relativly clean, other than that I would agree with you. Thanks for the responses so far.

What "both clutch packs"? Clutch B alone can deny you 4th and 5th
For what it's worth, the middle green pressure control valve, N217, is shown in the service manual as getting power except in fourth and fifth. Any chance it's plugged or stuck?
Yes, the first green solenoid works opposite to the others. It's the line pressure regulator valve, and absent electricity it defaults to full pressure.

Re: Maybe F125 switch malfunction? If it selects certain gears, maybe 4th and 5th contacts are brok
I'm not familiar with f125 switch. Do you have a diagram? this sounds like something I'd rather try before I pull the trans out.

Here is a thread, you can search "f125" on this forum and get a lot of hits

F125 moves for PRND432, not for Tip. You've lost 4th & 5th, in Tip too. F125 can't do that.
... and if the switch were bad, you'd get a code to that effect, not an incorrect ratio code, which means the transmission didn't do what the control module told it too.
