99 A8, does transmission rattle on cold start (30 F.)?
I know about the engine rattel for a few seconds on cold mornings but there seems to be a rattle that continues for longer and it seems to come from the tranny.

It could also be
the tranny pump cavitating. We have the same issue over on the C4 forum with rattling sound coming from the tranny until it warms up. The possible fix could be Tozo's famous "trim 1/4" off of the filter trick", but I haven't tried it yet. I've just been living with it for the past 1 1/2 years, and the car runs fine, but that tranny doesn't grenade like the A8's.
