Tkx for the info. I also have a 96 A6 with 142K miles and tranny's been perfect (knocking on wood) however I've been changing the fluid/filter regularly.
I'll give ZF a call next week and confirm the new shift kit is included with a rebuild.
Perhaps you could explain "If you have hunting problem already the chip upgrade probably won't help." Are u saying there's also a "chip" upgrade with the new shift kit or is it a separate upgrade? Tkx

If you are in Chicago area, King Transmission can rebuild for $2100 or so. That included the valve body. No more hunting, shifts nice, reprogram helped downshifts too.

Can you clarify what is meant by "hunting"?
I have a 98 A8 and I'm going through the issue of having all the gear selector lights come on occasionally.
