Has Audi even officially said there would be an S8?? They can do anything they want, I don't think when the A6 was released, anyone was thinking than the RS6 was to come, same with the original A4 in 1996.......Who knows what will come down the pipe with the future of the A8/S8/RS8......but I can hope, can't I??

Honestly, I would not rule out an RS8 just yet. According to The Car Connection and several other sources (mostly European), the new S6 will come out in North America one year after the new A6 and the new RS6 six months after the new S6. The new RS4 is coming out one year after the new S4. The new trend with the RS models is that Audi will bring them out one year to 18 months after the A cars rather than bring them out as end of life kickers. This is to improve Audi's image and make all of their models, especially their RS models, a lot more desirable. As for the new S8, that is supposed to come out in North America one year after the new A8L 4.2. C&D, R&T and many other sources have indicated this.

I think one of the big reasons this is probably happening is the split of the Audi group from the VW group, and as I remember, the Audi group was to be dedicated more to sport models.....

Now, I haven't had the chance to drive the new A4 yet, or the new A8 for that matter, but as impressive as I have heard they are, they don't strike me with the heavy sporty feeling of, say, the BMW M3 or the MB C32 AMG......and from what I've heard, the new S4 is right in the range with these cars, and the new models are coming and soon, which forces the "sporty" Audi to play catch up. I have no doubt that the RS4 will be a very impressive automobile, but I have the fear that the S8 will be only a slight step up from the A8, which will not capture our dreams like we hope, and that Audi will leave that for the RS8, which I think will be built. I'm willing to bet that the S8 (when introduced) will not be able to compete with the current model S55 AMG......Personally, I'd rather have the S8 with Quattro, but I couldn't argue with someone who said they liked the S55 more....The pricing is the biggest issue seperating the 2, and I'm very curiou to see if BMW does finally come up with something for the 7 series, everyone thinks an M7 is coming, but will it ever happen??

The long and the short of this rant is this......Until Audi tells me that there will not be an RS8 which makes all of our dreams come true, I will hope and pray to the car gods that they will build it, and maybe a couple techs that know how to work on them too, is that asking too much??
