A8 -- 75,000 and had a morning of Transmission Probs.

Put into reverse, back into drive and hesitated for a second or two and then lurched forward after the transmission caught.
Second scenario, later that morning at a stop light (in Drive), go to accelerate and the tach moved but the car did not until the trany caught.
I am gingerly driving and no issues or symptoms in the past 24 hours...
Any experience with A8 Transmissions going bad?

there have been a lot of discussions on this board about the A8 transmissions. The consensus is that you MUST keep your transmission fluid checked fairly often and add fluid as required. Also, the tranny fluid and filter should be changed every 40,000 miles or so. If you haven't had this done, I would highly recommed that you do so very soon. Also have the mechanic check for ANY evidence of transmission fluid leakage and fix any/all that are found. I hope that there is not any damage to your tranny, as they are VERY expensive to replace, and next to impossible to fix (lack of parts availability as I recall). Good luck!!

My 97' been running great without any issues. It is currently being looked at by an Audi Dealer and I post their feedback.
It is going to be an expensive diagnosis, but definetly don't want to fry the trany.
Keep you posted.

I had an Audi dealer run the diagnostics on checking the Transmission fluid...it came back clean and full.
Bottomline is that for some fluky reason, the car had a bad morning and for the past 48 hours and 200mi it has been running like a champ.

but keep your eyes and ears open for any more signs of trouble with the tranny. As with any major mechanical device, it is best to catch a problem early!! Also, intermittent problems are the most difficult to diagnose- this problem is very likely to return at some point in the future. Enjoy your A8!!
