I rented the new A8 (not L) for a few of days while being in Germany and got a chance to play around with the MMI/Nav and the rest of the car.
WOW, I love it. Altough it is ENTIRELY too big for German city roads and sticks out in most parking spots.
People have already posted about the different aspect of the car, so I just wanted to add a new one I hadn't read about before.
I took it out on the Autobahn twice (once at night at 1:30 AM and once in the moring at 5:30 AM when it was light). I got it up to the limiter (155 mph in Germany) both times and this thing just drives like on tracks, I felt like doing 70 mph. I played with an older 911 this moring that was going the same direction and we both were having fun, but neither of us got the chance to gain on the other. The 6 speed tip is very smooth, the car is extremely quiet at 155 mph, I could still have a normal conversation. My girlfriend actually fell asleep when I was doing the first run in the middle of the night. She slept through hitting 155 mph twice!!!
That said, she doesn't quite share my enthusiasm for the car, she much preferrs my TT Roadster.
Now, if I had $80K to spend on a car, I'd have a blue/beige A8L as soon as possible.
I hope that all of you who get one will have as much fun with it as I had during the four days I drove it.

Otmar:
They had stickers on the side that said "Audi R8 Racing" About 10 of them with Ingolstat plates. They parked by the "Audi hotel" next to the Expo center. Sweet looking, but they had hell in the heavy traffic around the circuit.
