Default A8 Fan problems

Temperature problems again. Temp is rising when I`m in park and engine is running. I touch Fan and it stops easily! Is visco working correctly? Engine was warm when I touch fan.

I just replaced my cooling fan for the exact scenario you're experiencing. Order up a new fan, they're available from several Audiworld suppliers. Audipages has a procedure that is real simple to follow, but you might want to purchase the fan pulley holding tool that will hold the pulley steady while you turn the opposite-hand threaded fan nut (28MM?).

It is an easy job for an independant mechanic if you don't want to tackle it yourself. If you live in Chicago you're welcome to use the tool I already bought.

Default The thermostat caused a similar problem last month for gg117. Test ...

the temperature of the lower right (passenger) side of the radiator. The coolant exits from this corner, at least in 1997-2002. If hot, change the fan. If cool, determine why too little coolant flows. (The fan evidently needs hot air to engage, so if too little coolant flows, a good fan may not engage while the engine overheats.)

If you notice the problem mostly in park and not when driving up hills, the fan seems more likely.

I believe you have a 32 valve motor, almost certain it's your fan clutch

Default To Paul..

Could it be only dirty, so cleaning maybe helps? I have heard that it is difficult to open when it`s so old like mine (1995).

I don't think you can clean them, just replace it

I wouldn't do that.....it would run way too fast at redline and probably cause damage
