Default A8 lowering

I am thinking lowering my A8 and putting bigger wheels but reading this forum looks like A8 ride is poor after changes and wheelnoise is much bigger? I have original size wheels, 225/55/17 and I am thinking 18" or maybe 19" wheels. What is good lowering set to A8? Is it H&R ? Is ride really so poor after changes?? Help me people with my "problem"

I have H&R's on my '99 with 255/45-18 wheels, I agree that the ride is a bit harsh than stock, but its no way near poor. The handling is far better than stock, and it looks much better aswell.

Default H&R's with 18" wheels here...

...and the H&R's lower the A8 perfectly. Ride quality is reduced from the luxo-barge setup of the stock A8 -- but the car handles now, which it didn't before. I wouldn't call the ride quality poor -- it's just stiffer, particularly during the first weeks. Then the weight of the car settles the shocks and springs a bit, and your butt also recalibrates. If you want to drive your A8 in a sporting way, it's money well spent. If you like the Sedan de Ville ride, don't buy 'em.

I see a lot of guys with 19" wheels talking about bent wheels. I went to 18" and have had no problems.

Default theres also a couple other options, with varying prices.

You could go with the S8 suspension which people seem to enjoy but its big $$$. Then theres the Bilstein and eibach setup which is the cheapest solution. The bilstein and eibach combo doesnt eliminate ride comfort like the H&R's, but it is a noticable improvement over stock. I have neither currently but will be going with the bilstein/eibach combo when I have all the parts.

Are you really running 225/45/18 or are they 245?

Default I'd volunteer that the ride is better...

with Eibach and Bils than stock....
Pro's: not as roly, less brake dive, corners better, looks better
Con's: lose a bit of cushiness, cabin has developed some squeaks I suspect from driving over Portlands crappier than crap roads...
