A8 shift problem

The transmission has different shift patterns based on driving habits. Could your driving habit be changing at times such that it may be switching to the coarser patterns? My '99 did this as I changed the rate by which I pressed the accelerator. The '00 doesn't seem to do this as much.
Early morning shifts tended to be rougher.

Is it banging into the next gear? Does it vibrate when it shifts? Neither are normal and could be indicative of a intermittent problem with the trnasmissions electronic control unit. Slow or jerky down shifts are not uncommon with this car however.

There is also a continual vibration in 5th gear between 40 and 60 mph. I've taken the car to the dealer and was told that there was nothing wrong. That is how the A8 shifts. I could live with the banging but the constant vibration in 5th is really annoying. Please help
