Default A8 speed limiter

Has anyone removed the speed limiter in their car. I live in the middle east and unfortunately the car is locked at 180km/h

Default I wonder if it's ever had a speed limiter

I have driven about 135 indicated previously, and it didn't hit the wall, but 135 indicated is probably 130 actual.

I recently went 139 indicated with the chip, it was odd, it didn't seem to keep pulling past this, unless that was the limiter kicking it, it sure wasn't violent.....

Is there any reason why we could not buy a non-us spec ECU and see the limiter go bye-bye? I was fristrated when it kicked in once, but I am not going to get too worried about going over 130 anyway. I had a friggin' Taurus SHO that would do a calibrated (GPS anyway) 149-- with 235 horsepower. I just don't like to think that some Mustang GT is going to out-gun an A8 on a highway sprint.

Default You can remove the speed limiter with Lemmiwinks. ...

Mclarenm8d probably has the most experience with Lemmiwinks and the A8. I downloaded the free software but haven't experimented with it yet.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/79583.phtml">Still tweeking</a></li></ul>

Default Re: I wonder if it's ever had a speed limiter--Definitely!

Paul, I'ld have to imagine that at 139, you hit the limiter. The old V8 Quattros had less HP and were less aerodynamic than the A8's, but they could exceed 150 mph. Check out the photo of the V8 speedo at Ingo Rautenberg's site -- http://hometown.aol.com/quattringo/index.html

I'ld imagine that an unlimited A8 has the capacity for 155+, but I'm not going to try. :-)

OK, put your ECU where I can see it.... ok careful now... GOT IT!

Ok-- you're free to go. Oh-- here's a US spec ECU. And don't go ripping any of those tags off of your mattresses or I'll be back in force!

Will it work on a '97? If so, the money's going out. The idle speed fixes the thump, the limiter fixes the driver's ego, the timing advance cures the slow off-line initial accelleration, --- that is a lot of fixes!

Default It is good and bad.

Good in the sense it has the sport package, bad in the sense some parts can only be found in Europe.

Luckily I have a few friends in Munich that mail me parts from time to time.
