i am about to change the transmission oil & filter on my 97 a8 as per the technical articles on this site. however today a mechanic at the used audi place where i bought the car told me i would have to flush the tranny first to get the oil out of the torque converter. flushing is not mentioned in any article i've read. any comments would be appreciated. also can someone tell me how to get in touch with wendy hager, assuming she is still selling parts. i can't get the likk in the article to work. thanks, stephen

Wendy is not active with audi parts as best I know.
A trans. flush is not so important. If you drain fluid, drop the pan to change the filter, and then refill properly, the better part of the fluid will be changed. If a fluid only drain and fill is performed at a later date, Even more refreshing of fluids will be the result.
Better!
If the drained fluid comes out deep brown and smelling burnt, a concerted effort to get all the fluid changed is a good idea.
Don't worry, some "old" fluid mixed with the fresh will not have a negetive influence on a healthy transmission. In fact, some would suggest a gradual introduction of fresh fluid with fresh detergency so as not to loosen deposits and clog up the works in the Valve body.
