A8 vs. S8, Worth the Extra $$??
#2
First off the brakes are upgraded to brembros witch are great
also the 50 HP's dont sound like mutch but the gearing is the great part about it. The axil ratio is alot high, forgot the actual number, but it give the S8 alot more punch at any speed. Also there is the great 18 wheels too and the sport exhaust

Had a 98 A8 and liked it.Traded for 02 S8:night and day,no comparison, handling, responsivness, acceleration and brakes totally superior. And excellent sport seats, sport steering wheel, much better looking car consider icing on the cake.
I would pay double the diffrence in price to get it vs A8.

If you have the need for speed there is really no comparison between the two. I think the S8 is the best all around four season vehicle made.If the $$$ are not the issue there is really no question!

Re: A8 vs. S8, Worth the Extra $$??
I originally wanted to buy the S8 after seeing a print ad in the NY Times listing the 360hp, but after a test drive I was disapointed with the ride quality and the rear leg room. The S also rides lower to the ground. As I already continually scrape the front bottom of my car, I am glad I didn't take the S, I'd have it destroyed by now. As for power, the S8 only feels marginally quicker.
As for prestige. Don't buy an A8 or S8 in this country, if that's you bag. An S430 Benz will more readily impress the neighbors.

In my opinion, not worth the extra money if you prefer a smooth and comfortable drive. In that case take the regular 4.2 Quattro (310hp). I drove the S8 (360hp) but didn't like the automatic gearbox at all (very nervous). Also, the car is too noisy at speed, at least more than the other A8s. No, a very disappointing car in my opinion. But I can imagine that its the car for you if you like sportscars. It isn't the 360hp that makes the car uncomfortable. Last week, I drove the Volkswagen Phaeton 12 cylindre with 420hp. Is this car on sale in the US now? I find it a fabulous car, although the design of the old A8 is even better.

One went thru Audi's auction in Chicago 2 weeks ago!
Dealer is prob getting it ready for sale now. It needed dr's side glass. Otherwise low miles and perf. Check local Chicago dealer sales...

Take April's advice, but also ...
.
look 9 threads up.
Besides 50 hp, the A8 and S8 suspension set-ups have very different priorities, and the S8 comes with lower gearing and 4-pot Brembo brakes.
