Default Are A8's more prone to probs that A6's?

[puts flame suit on]..

I am just about ready to bite the bullet and buy a 2002 A8, but am also looking at an '02 A6 4.2, and coincidentally, a 2000 M5 - but that a question for another board, I guess, unless someone here owns one of those as well..

The car I am looking at has about 72k on it. Everything seems to work fine. With these cars being so complex, are they any less reliable than the same model year A6? I know its an almost un-answerable question, but just looking for some feedback.

Default No.

And I followed both forums (D2 and C5) closely for years.

Default You might want to consider an 01-03 S8 instead.

If you're considering a car with the performance of the M5, the S8 is by far more comparable.

Six years ago I narrowed my short list down to the S8 and M5, obviously chose the S8, and haven't regretted the decision. Where you live is certainly a factor, but if you need a 4-season car, the S8's aluminum construction and AWD tipped the scales for me.

Default Interesting... I hadn't even really considered that.

in that case, I would probably be looking at:

or that one.

My budget is a little under 20k. Anyone know of any good deals out there? I'm in the mpls area, but would travel a little for the right deal.

Default Get an Audi

If you get and M5, you really need to get an 01-03. Do NOT get a 2000 M5. They are famous for vanos problems - i.e. major major repair to your motor. They have other little problems too.

I love both cars (see my sig). But if your budget it $20K, you will get more car for your money with an Audi.

Default Mpls AreaRe: Interesting... I hadn't even really considered that.

Hello,

Saw that you were in Mpls area. You might want to talk to Tim Noyes 612-965-6004. He is a car broker specializing in Audi's. Basically, he searches auctions for you. Also has website http://www.autoacu.com/

I have purchased 4 cars from Tim and have been very satisfied.

I love my Audi's. Not nearly as handy as others on this board with repairs, but you will find this forum an unbelievable source of help. It has quite honestly made owning the car quite a bit more enjoyable.

Good luck.
