Default ABS Help

Hello everyone,
I pulled the VAG COM codes below for my ABS unit. I have been getting the ABS, ESP light and the blinking brake light. Any ideas how to solve these. I noticed others saying you can re-code the ABS module. Is this something that I can do with my VAG COM or do I need to take it to the dealer? As always, any help is much appreciated.

Regards,

I don't have ESP on my car and I've never seen this myself, but according to Bentley:

If the control module is coded with code 00000 or with a code that does not match the vehicle, the ABS warning light -K47- and the traction control indicator light -K86- light continuously, and the DTC01044 - "Control module incorrectly coded" is stored in the DTC memory of the control module.

So when the ABS was replaced it wasn't adapted properly. Do you have a VAG-COM tool?

Vagcom alone can test, reset components/functions of ABS, bleed the ABS unit, test the pump and other features to...just follow the prompts.
I don't have the Vagcom, but a friend recently lost use of the front brakes completely after a simple brake job, went in with his Vagcom and followed prompts, which totally restored braking to normal. He wasn't getting any dash warnings, though. But in your case, Vagcom should be able determine if it's correctable with coding or an actual problem with the ABS hydraulic unit's electrical module (removable from the unit), which can be repaired by various companies, without replacing the entire hydraulic or even removing the hydraulic block from the car. Audi dealers always insist upon replacing the entire Hydraulic unit (at HUGE $$$), but the entire unit is never bad, just the removable elec control.

Thanks for the replies so far. Has anyone here coded an ABS module and calibrated the steering sensor? Also, it says I need a dealer code to do so, is that correct? It seems that I have the Bosch 5.0 system as I don't have the same control unit attached to the pump as the 5.3 system. Anything I should be cautious or aware of working with this system? I appreciate all of the help.

Don't you have a 2000 A8L? All D2's have Bosch 5.3 ABS (97 on up)...what indication did get that you have 5.0?

you have a bad ABS controller, had the exact same problem on my wife's car a couple of months ago.

You can replace just the controller (electrical part) on the car if you remove the headlight.

That saves having to remove the whole thing, bleed etc.

I think I have a Bosch 5.0 because it doesn't look like the 5.3 and from what i've seenon the module rebuild sites it looks the same as the 5.0. Is that right or am I crazy? Also the vagcom code seems like it is the same code related to the 5.0. Has anyone had experience with this model?

Puzzling? According to most spec lists like this:
https://www.audiworld.com/model/a8/content.shtml
All A8's 97-03 used only 5.3.
Modulemaster lists both for 2000 model.
BUT, Bentley manual shows that ESP is only possible with 5.3 ABS.
Is yours a US model?

Hi everyone,
I finally had time to look at my ABS problem. I took the under-dash cover under the steering wheel to confirm I have a Bosch 5.0 system and I do have the controller box under the dash. I plugged in my VAGCOM and logged into the ABS with the with the 05497 code and then coded the controller with the 08397 code. At that point the code showed up in the "Soft Code" section on the screen. I next tried to zero the steering angle sensor and I tried to log into Group 001 and I get an error. I heard that Group 005 would give you an instantaneous steering angle and I get an error with that as well. Does this mean my steering angle sensor has given up the ghost or am I missing something else? As alway, any help is much appreciated.

Best regards,
