Default an alternative to a in-dash nag unit

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/53706/423k0009.1.jpg"></center><p>i'm trialing this navman unit at the moment - sort of a beta test.

very useful with voice commands, and pretty easy setup - particularly if you are prepared to spend the time on a pc and get your favourite journeys entered.

the unit will not work in my s8 at all without an external aerial which is frustrating.

the big advantage of this sort of unit is three-fold:
1) cost - about $5-700usd
2) you only mount it on the windscreen when you need it. most of the time we undergo journeys to known destinations over known routes. the few times we venture into the unknown, then you unpack the unit from the glovebox.
3) you don't lose the 6-cd indash unit.

Default I've been enjoying the use of the Garmin StreetPilot III as well.

<center><img src="http://www.tramsoft.ch/gps/garmin_streetpilot-III_big.jpg"></center><p>A very user-friendly system. Comes with maps and points of interests of the entire U.S.A., 128 MB memory card, and USB connection for the card.

Price seems to have come down from US$1000 to about US$600. And you can download different voices from garmin.com Actually, the voices are very similar but they speak different languages. Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

Default Never had any problem with receiving a GPS signal with the Garmin on my dashboard.

Except when I try using it surrounded by 40 story buildings, like in downtown Chicago.

Default I'm using a Ipaq 4355 with a bluetooth gps receiver....

I have the summer package with the coated windows and have no problem, plus I get MP3 and wireless with the Ipaq and connection to my phone for 144kbps. $455 for Ipaq, $350 for Socket bluetooth GPS.
