Default aluminum trim removal and polishing

There was a post about this a few days ago. I'm referring to the aluminum bumper trim that looks bad on everyones car. I checked the Bently, and the trim is attached to the bumper and that has to be removed in order to get the trim off. Can anyone confirm or deny ? It is aluminum and can be polished as I found out myself with a little test. No way I'm going to do it on the car though. I tried a small section while sanding/polishing my headlight lenses today.
Hoping that there's another way to get it off w/o removing the bumper.

My headlights had 80k worth of chips and were looking a little hazy. I wet sanded then polished in this order:

220
400
600
1000
1500

then polish with:
heavy
med
fine

If you have 2000 sandpaper you might be able to
skip the heavy polish. It should look white after the 220 which is most of the work. You need to sand pretty heavily at the 220 stage so
don't be afraid. They'll look ruined at this stage for sure. Just keep going and they'll come out real nice. Figure an hour for each light. If you have a post facelift car, open the hood and remove the black philips screw holding the painted trim under the light. Then jut pull it out. Not sure if it's the same pre 2000.

If you're talking about the bumper strip, it's Chrome, not Aluminium, I believe

Default I sanded through the finish and it scuffed up like aluminum and looks dull. I was really checking..

to see if it was plastic which I'm sure it's not. Is there any real chrome plating on the A8 ?
