Am I doing a dis-service to my A8 or myself?
I have a '97 A8 3.7, I have been running Mobil 1 0w-40 for approximately 5k miles with the intent of changing the oil every 10k and the filter every 5k. Current mileage ~66k, region northern midwest

Re: Depends on the condition of the oil and the type of driving you do.
5 days a week, 25-30 miles daily, 75% of that on the highway. Weekends vary... <10 miles city... or over 300 highway miles.

I would probably increase the interval
That's not many miles on the engine, but a lot of years on the car. Given the amount you drive, you'll be replacing seals and belts and hoses and bushings and nickel-and-diming yourself to death long before the engine wears out.
