Default Amazing ASF safety story

A few months ago a big government official in my country Bulgaria was driving in his A8 between the capital Sofia and the coast of the black sea. At 240 km/h about 150mph the driver looses control of the vehicle on a turn and the car literally flew off the highway. The car was in the air for about 40-50 yards before hitting the ground. Both the minister and his driver survived the crash. Audi officials have been studying and documenting the crash site because I guess at this speed and impact the chance for survival are minimal. I guess ASF rules!

Default The structure on these things is amazing.

I've been beyond/under the cosmetics doing several things (especially the XM install), and the size of the structural elements is always eye-opening. Also, when jacking the car for the transmission service (see the pic at the top of Paul's procedure for that on Audipages), it was apparent just how rigid the vehicle was. It seemed like there was absolutely -0- deflection around the jack points.

Bigger test is jacking up half the car or a corner of the car and opening, then CLOSING a door. The "teletubby" type44 (5kq) "barely" passes. The type8B (CQ) does much better as does the type8C (B4 90). The type8D smokes all three of them. It will be interesting to see how the type4B/C5 does. Can definately see the progression in Audi chassis/structural design by owning quattros spanning 17 years of age.

Default This car does fine with that.

Been there, done that.

C5 A6 doesn't mind, either, though it's of course not nearly as solid as this car.

Default Just remember that even the A8 is not indestructible.
