Just wanted to show others another option for a hidden nav/screen/dvd/cd/radio/etc.. this is a apline I have had it about 8 years and in 3 diff vehicles. Right now it is in my saab.. It can be hidden with a cover that comes with the unit. looks like a blank cover instead of radio. Maybe someday I might do something like this in the audi.. Just wanted to show others options to the audi nav. the alpin is easier to install, no cutting required and can be hidden.. I think the new ones now are touch screen and XM radio

http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/80635/img_0077.jpg</a

that is a nice option to have the dash info. I do like that.. Just showing another option to those who can't get a audi nav unit or want to to deal with dash cutting or even to have a unit that is hidden. Just options. I like the audi unit I have a whole center dash unit just need the nav unit. I even have all the plugs.. Just no time to do a conversion as of yet. Someday maybe.. for now I use my HP ipaq for nav. For me the only way to go it a setup similar to tozo, with a touch screen and pc. I like having a HD and software. Just waiting for wireless prices to drop.. But I could live with hd for music and XM to replace FM.

One of these connected to an old pc with an inverter and a remote unlock relay in the trunk (to start boot up when the unlock is pressed on the remote) is the way to go. Especially with the software that is currently being developed for these things. I think you could do the whole setup for less than $500 if you have an old PC laying around. Take a router to the wood panel and make the screen fit flush all the way around, run the wires and you have a very capable system.

Touchscreen

I have even seen PC cases and power supplies made for auto use so it can be done in a car and look nice. we no that already with the ones some of you have done. The only thing missing is Wireless taht goes anywhere,CHEAP. But like I said that would be a project I will work on hopefully this year. Just wish I had the time and funds.

buy one of those monitors and one of these and you have the entire system minus the cables and the gps antenna. This would fit easily into the glovebox or under a seat for easy CD changing.

Carputer
