So myself and others started this whole tranny fluid/filter change thing a few years back. I got mine changed at about 78K miles almost 2.5 years ago because it made a terrible scretching noise when I started my car one morning.
It was towed to the dealer and they said "operating within manufacturer's parameters" and didn't do anything. Then I figured I should have the fluid/filter changed and had them do it for about $350 about a month or so later. I did a fluid change out about 3 months later. No filter.
That was then, this is now.....

I brought my car over to my new local (less than a mile away) trusty mechanic, Vladamere at Forest Park Foreign Auto Repair. Dropped it off last night with the procedure (he already knew how to do it, but I can see he read it!).
Gave him two T27's to make the job even easier, one that he could grind down, he gave both back to me.
Gave him all the parts and a list of what I wanted done, including changing the engine oil and filter.
Told him to call me before he starts the car, because I want to be there when he fills it!
He called me, went over there...I sat in the car with my PC (he has VAG 1552, but we used my PC) up on the lift and ran it through the gears when he did the final fill.

It took about 7 litres total, he had just drained it, didn't leave it overnight or anything.
He said the magnets looked like this (I showed him the procedure picture):

How Does My Transmission Shift Now?
Smooth as silk....what a difference! Have to drive it so more, but an immediate significant change is noticable.
If you are in the Chicagoland area and are looking for a trustworth mechanic, Forest Park Auto Repair can fill that bill. I bring my parts to him, I think he likes that!
Their number is 708-366-3616. He's right off Harlem and I-290 on Harrison Street.
He charged me 1.8 hours at $75/hr for the tranny service and 0.7 hours for the engine oil change including cleaning the belly pan and wiping the engine and pan down per my request.
Total labor: $187.50
Total cost for tranny service: $135 labor, $30 for the filter, and $100 for 8 litres, one of which I have left over.....$265.
If it's been over 40K miles or two years since your last tranny fluid/filter change, get it done soon. If it's never been done before GET IT DONE NOW!
Now I'm really ready for Mid Ohio!

Was that photo of YOUR magnets taken yesterday or one of your "stock" photos? If that is two years of shillings that is amazing. Have a great time at Mid-Ohio! (I'll be on my boat!)
