So my Nav Plus radio sounds just like my original Delta radio that wasn't getting reception a few months ago. A summary:
Original Delta radio went from perfect reception to borderline terrible one day about 3 months ago. Could only get Chicago stations downtown, go more than 15 miles from the city and couldn't get any reception on those stations.
Bought a new antenna, hooked it up, no change.
Got a used Delta radio from a Audiworld lister and put it in, perfect reception again.
Now it's 6 weeks later, I put in the Nav Plus unit and I get the same exact terrible reception that I got with the first Delta unit (which I now think is just fine). Pulled the unit out and wiggled the antenna wire...but still the same crummy reception.
Any ideas how to test? Is there a way to test an antenna? I'm sure there is, but I don't know how.
Ideas? And now that I've changed my wiring on the radio, it will not be easy to hook the Delta back up to see if it has crummy reception or not.
But I guess that's a good first step.

Do you think that Headunit 1 and the NAV might not be providing power to the inline antenna? I had to manually provide a switched power to the fm antenna before i got recepiton again.. then i just got pissed and ripped the whole thing out..

I had to remove the electric antenna power supply to the antenna today because the Nav unit has different pin configuration. So I just put it up and left it there (the gears are kinda stripped, I can do that).....so it did not have "switched" power to it and it does have an amplifer installed.
I will have to jump power to it and see what the reception does. Thanks for the tip.

I have the rear window glass antenna. Bentley says it has four amplifiers. Any ideas on how to test, where to get power etc...
My reception goes - station...Pffft...station...pffft and repeats about every 4 seconds while driving. While stationary, reception is fine.
I'll get this durn nav+ perfect yet!
Sorry for questions of such "mundanity."
Happy '04 to one and all!

Pull out the radio, in the wiring harness you should see a wire for the "remote on off" or antanna / amp..
im not sure which one it is but if you give it direct power you should get great signal.
I would say you can test it by jumping power from the 12v in, off the radio or the lighter.
I bet you its the same issue.. sometimes the wire or relay over time goes kaput.

Like Paul I have a nav+
As this install / mod / lobotomy creates a seemingly incredible tangle of wires, anything is possible. I'll have to look on the nav+ diagram sticker to see where antenna power is located and then see if we connected anything to it.
Thanks for the hint. I think this IS the problem as it sounds most logical.
