Your Mom's car might not have a CD changer in the trunk, just the six disc changer in the head unit?
If so, get a Blitzsafe adaptor.....should work....

So Blitzsafe works on in dash changer setups from 2000+, but not on 99,98,97? My 99 has a trunk changer. How much for the install parts???

by using a satellite receiver with a built-in FM modulator- it transmits the sat signal to your existing FM radio on an unused frequency. The quality of the signal isn't quite as good as a hardwired unit, but should be sufficient for most people for use in their cars.

http://www.ecost.com/ecost/ecce/shop/detail.asp?dpno=495268</a

That plugs into the back of the stereo....and then you tune your radio to a certain station.
Or Jeff Bipes has a line level device to switch between the trunk CD changer and another line level input....click the link below for more info, it's $150.
Then she won't loose either.....but if she already has a single changer in the dash, she could unplug the rear changer, plug in a Blitzsafe and then hook up XM like I did.
If she has XM now.....she won't need 7 CD's installed anymore.
I'd do the install if you'd like, but would probably charge too much money.

You need a 13 pin changer which came on 98 and newer A8's....the Delta radios in the 97's used a 8 pin changer, won't work. They are about $90.
Or you could keep your CD player in the trunk and get Jeff Bipe's switching device and hook XM up to it from the line level input.

Jeff Bipe's solution

Following PaulW's wiring diagram for the hands-free kit, I made a "blitzsafe" type adapter for our 8 pin CD changers in the 1997 model. I can hook any audio source up to it and didn't have to cut any wires (Portable DVD or MP3 player). I imagine it would also work with a satellite reciever that had a standard audio plug. The aux audio device can sit in the center console, in the armrest (like mine) or in the ash tray. I vaguely remember someone having installed his satellite receiver in the ash tray and was able to close the lid over it when not in use. I'm on the fence about the whole satellite thing, but will likely have to switch once my Howie leaves in 2006 for Sirius. See my previous posts for details.
