Not sure if these picts help, but this is a 45% tint. A word of caution: My experience didn't go so well, as the people who did the job didn't mention that the car should not be driven in the rain until at least two hours after being tinted. Had to replace my back window and get it retinted elsewhere.

Why would you want to take the glass out to tint your windows?

I've had 5 quattro's tinted and never removed the windows. On my S8 I also tinted the sunroof to make it even darker (too much sun in Colorado). Use a reputable installer and you won't go wrong.

I just had mine done on 9/6, you do not have to take the doors apart. That is the same thing I heard but found a local guy that knows what he is doing. Most places do not want to do it because they have to cut the tint by hand, there is not a computer cutout design for A8's. This guy cleaned the windows inside and out with an extremely fine scotchbrite pad and cut the tint by hand. He then rolled then windows down and used painter's masking tape to pull the wide window felt strips back in towards the inside of the car and away from the glass. Then he used a steam cleaner to clean the felt inside and out to get rid of any debris. layed the film on the outside and lightly heated the film to get it to contour itself to the glass, then he put it on. The one thing the CAN NOT be done is heat the tint or the glass too much or it will crack and break. After he was done he let the car sit in direct sunlight for half an hour each side and went over the tint again to make sure it was on good and clean. I got 35%JOHNSON brand tint installed, with the dark interior it looks alot darker, but has a nice classy shine to the outside, almost like the factory tinting just darker - not black though.

I didnt have the windows taken out either
but mine kind of pulled in the corners of the front windows a little. not noticable to any one else but I notice it. I have the security glass, or the dual paned. I dont know if all the 8's have them but that made it more difficult.
I got 3m tint so lifetime warrenty but the problem is that they discontinued the bronze tint so .... catch 22.

I can add many words of help on this subject. Had 11 cars tinted in my life so far:
No, you do not have to get the windows taken out.
Mine WERE tinted out, but only because the windows were out during my cars repaint. I purchased new windows all around and wanted them tinted out of the car originally because I did not want anyone working on my car after fresh paint.
I have had every car I have owned tinted and a GOOD shop can put tint on a car being custom hand cut in a few hours. Tint does not need to be "die cut" in advance. I have seen this done as I was good friends with my tint guy (go figure haha).
If my windows were in the car there is NO way I would want to take them out for a 200$ tint job. If the windows, or most of them were already out, I would have them tinted out of the car.
The differences:
Tinted in the car:
The tint can look well cut and perfect but there will be a small area around the edges of the molding (NOT where you can see from in the car) that the tint will not reach. It WILL reach under the rubber seals, but not all the way to the edge of the window.
Tinted out of the car:
Looks factory. Plain and simple. I am very happy with my $4000+ in new windows, and the fact that the tint goes beyond the black edges of the front and back windows, and all the way to the edge of the side glass, makes be very happy with the outcome. It is not work paying someone to disassemble your car to do, but it they are out, DO IT.
If you have any questions, LMK.
If you want to be to post pictures, LMK
