There are a few off lease Range Rovers available for pretty decent prices and wife and I are thinking about it.
Any typical problems or short comings you guys know or heard of. Its hard to go by the "test reviews" at various websites, they are never really too negetive.
Thank you all..

IMHO, the Range Rover Classic vintage was almost bulletproof mechanically.
Other than confirming that scheduled maintenance was performed, check for leakage around the swivel seals (the steel ***** that protect the front CV joints). Replacing a seal is not expensive, but if that steel ball is supposed to run about half full with gear oil. If it's leaked out and the CV joint was run dry, that expensive CV joint may need to be replaced.
Check for galvanic corrosion wherever the aluminum body comes near steel. Check just above the rear bumper and see link.
Check every switch and everything electrical for proper functioning. Lucas, the Prince of Darkness, deserves his title.

Galvanic corrosion

We have had a Range Rover in our family for more than 30 years. 8 Range Rovers total. I totalled my 1995 County Classic SWB. Had many problems although I purchased mine brand new. The problems started with the Air Suspension, had the pump replaced twice, once under warranty and the 2nd time I had to pay for this. All three catalytic converters failed after warranty expired. Engine is anemic. Other than than theses issues and a few minor annoyances, much like the A8, there is a certain feel and stance when you drive a RR. I will await the for the 2nd production year of the all new 2004 RR before I consider purchasing one. Yet I am already sold on the A8.

...she loves this truck.
We've had a few minor problems with it. Front windshield seal failed and let snow into the headliner, causing the moon roof to open in a snow strom on the QEW in Canada. The power steering unit leaks, they all do eventually but it leaks slowly and I just top off the PS fluid once a month.
The RR wil drive through any snow. It is the only vehicle I've driver that is better in the snow than my '00 A8. Simply amazing, I have literally driven through 4 ft of snow down a two lane road here in Buffalo, NY.
The truck cruises comfortably at 80 mph, but takes a while to get there. For the money (I paid $12,000 two years ago)it's a great value.
IMHO get a classic ('94 or '95) if you can find a good one.
