Anyone here haul their bike in their A8?

I know that this is a weird question, but I'm curious. If so, do you have a rack or have you managed to fit it in your trunk? Any thoughts on whether a mountain bike would fit in the trunk sans front wheel?

I tried to put my Mountain bike in the trunk with no luck- handlebars were too long for the angle I could get on them. My bike is pretty big, so YMMV- give it a try! The Yakima works great, though.

I can fit my road bike in my trunk with both wheels off, but not just one.

My buddy has the Audi rack on his A8:

My '91 200 was totaled by the safety inspection people. I could easily fit my mountain bike in it, and I hauled my bike a lot of places. The A8 was the only Audi sedan that would hold my bike, but it's still smaller, yet about 800# heavier than the 200. I take both front and rear wheels off and tie the rear derailer up with a rag, otherwise it sticks out too far. I can hold two medium size mountain bikes in the trunk of my A8, and the gas mileage is much better and noise much less.

I bought a Thule Aero rack for my 5000. Since then I've used the rack on a Ford Taurus (company car) Toyota RAV4 (wife's ride) and the A8. Fits and works well on the A8. Sold the feet (mounting pads) for the 5K and Taurus on Ebay and bought new feet ($40.00?) as new vehicles came along. Nice multi-purpose rack as they all probably are when you lay out that kind of dough.

I must remove the wheels and slip out the handle bars which is one very easy and quick maneuver only using one allen wrench to make the move. I always use a plastic bag to place over the derailer to make sure not to get any grease from the chain and sprockets on the lining of the trunk. I've made that mistake in the past and ended up really greasing up some clean things I put in the trunk after the bike was in it.
It's Funny that this trunk is so small because in my previous car (the V8 Quattro) which seemed much smaller, I was able to fit the bike just fine only having to remove the wheels, never having to mess with the handle bars at all.
In each situation, the wheels then simply fit over the bike with no problem and the trunk closes fine. I prefer it to a rack, this way the bike is completely hidden from view. No one would ever have a clue I'm even transporting a bike. It's fine if you're not going to have pack much more in your car.
The trunks on the A8 have a much more desirable hinge set up than most other cars. It's all outside of the trunk. On my V8 Quattro and every other car I've owned I had to be very carful. I had to be certain that the hinge arms that lower down as you close your truck don't end up damaging the bike (or anything else for that matter) that is positioned incorrectly in the trunk before closing it.
Hope this makes sense. Good Luck!

How do the feet do on the A8? Are the ones in the link the ones you have? They're showing $120 for the foot kit.
I've currently got a Thule rack for my A6 Avant. The feet just grip the roof rails on the Avant. I'm shopping for a used A8, and wondered how this system would do on it.
I worry about how the feet work on the roof. I use the system to carry a medium sized ski carrier, which I use for extra luggage space on long trips.

Thule 400 - Aero Foot Pack

Kind of. Utah requirs a dyno for emmissions testing, exempting AWD cars. The tech somehow overlooked the fact that my car was quattro, stuck it on the dyno, and before long that was the end of the transmission. The 91 200 is a somewhat rare car and there were no acceptable replacement transmissions available, so the shop's insurance company agreed to buy the car from me for replacement value. Much better than a trade in for an A8.
