It appears that my cylinder 1 misfire has been solved...
I finally gave up trying to diagnose this continuing misfire myself...had to eat a piece of humble pie and drop it at the mechanic on Saturday. Fortunately, the one Indy shop in town that will work on these cars seems to know his stuff - having moved to the states only a few years ago from Ireland and spending 5 years training at the Audi factory in Germany, I feel confident that this guy knows my car better than I do.
I got a call from him early this afternoon with news that he had found my problem...the intake manifold gasket had failed on the cylinder 1 plenum. After all the diagnostics and random parts replacement on my part, a problem that could have been diagnosed with old school mechanics had done me in.
It all makes sense now; the misfire seeming fine for the 1st couple of minutes after starting, but getting worse as the engine gets to temp; the misfire becoming more and more prevalent as time goes on; the random misfire and lean condition on bank one as cylinder one sucks air and gives the O2 sensor bad readings.
The comment that really caught me off gaurd was when the mechanic stated that he was sure that this would fix the problem, and if it didn't, there would be no charge because he guarantees his work. Wow, how 'bout that?

https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/152990.phtml</a
