I just received my November 2003 Consumer Reports and there is a Luxury Sedan test of the Audi A8l (2004), BMW 745Li, Jaguar XJ8, Lexus LS430 and Mercedes S430. They of course liked the Lexus the best and recommended it because of reliablilty. The Audi was a new model so they reported no reliability data and could not recommend it.

I wonder how long it will take for Consumers Report "to report" that this car is reliable. Two years? Five years? Never? I have driven Corvettes since 1977 when they were absolutely the worst when it came to reliability. My C5s have been perfect yet Consumers has this "thing" about Corvettes and still rates them badly in terms of reliability. To them, its Honda, Toyota or Nissan and thats it. Boring. Hey, where is your car?

The readers themselves rate their own goods, so CR having a "thing" about Corvettes is not exactly true. They are reporting the results from owner feedback.
Same with the Audi .. they can't rate reliability until they get A8L owners to fill out their questionaires, in sufficient quantity to make the results statistically viable.
