Default Audi Trans Fluid Question

I was wondering has anyone researched Audi Automatic Trans Fluid. I know it is the only fluid recommended for our cars. Does anyone know what the real differences are. I talked to BG and they said Audi Fluid is not synthetic. I'm considering going to full synthetic ATF and using a flush machine to change 100% of the fluid. I just have to make some connectors to the cooler lines.

Default We're more than willing to have you be the guinea pig. We're all too chicken.

Search around, there's a thread on the following here somewhere. When Paul Waterloo met with the ZF folks in Chicago at their new rebuilding facility, they said the Esso / Audi fluid was the only stuff to use. That said, it seemed as much a "it's the only thing we've tested, and no one else will pay us to test their fluid" sort of situation.

Default The head parts guy at the dealer told me that the fluid was synthetic BTW

Default Re: I don't think he knows what he's talking about.

I had a more than casual converation with my BG rep today and he called their HQ. They have actually analyzed Audi, Volvo, and other specialty ATF fluids. Upon analysis, Audi fluid is not synthetic, at least thats what their lab said. They saqid their Synthetic ATF was compatible. I'll do some more research and keep you guys posted.

When I had My Q45, I replaced all my fluids with synthetic, including differential, and it ran a lot smoother.

Default I need to do my diffs.

It's high on my action list. MobilOne in the crankcase, and I think it had Amsoil before I had it.

What brand and type of fluid are you going to use. What is the change interval for the diffs?

Default I'm not sure there is a published interval for that.

But that doesn't mean I don't think you should consider doing it.

I've got some MobilOne synthetic gear lube.

I'm at around 62k miles, which seems like a good time.

http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tech/audi/</a

Default Thanks for the info. I'm doing mine soon...

I've used Mobil 1 syn gear lube in my other cars with AWD, but am switching to AMSOIL. I'm a preventative maintenance nut too. My 98' A8 has 63k also.
