Default Audi UK - Tyre recall

I received a letter today from Audi UK informing me "The constant monitoring of vehicles in service has found that Michelin Pilot Sport tyres 255/35 ZR20 97Y may suffer a loss of pressure"

They are basically saying that these factory fitted 20" tyres have a safety issue and to make an appintment to go to the stealer and have them changed without charge.

My 2002 S8 has done 42,000 now, and still has 3 of these tyres fitted.

Will see what happens when I go in.

Hmm, the general dealer/manufacturer orientation in the US is that the rubber is covered(?)by the tire company and problems are between you and them. It must be a pretty big problem. See if if they will tell you exactly what the failure mode is.

I have some scary memories of driving VW vans in high winds. Good luck with those.

Default Which Michelin Pilot Sport 255/35/20 97Y XL is involved?

There are two in the U.S., though here the tread pattern shown on the right (and which I'm currently running) is usually called the Pilot Sport2.

From Alan's pic poster, looks like he's running the one on the left.

Default Yes, it is the one on the left.

However, until I have some feedback from Audi or Michelin, it is not certain that the one I have is the one with the problem.

I have done 150 MPH on those tyres and towed a big trailer, (not at the same time of course), so if they are the problem tyres I have been lucky, if not they have done a good job.

Will let you know when I have been in touch with Michelin.

Cheers

The Recall is on the Pilot Sport Directional(the one on the left) not the Pilot Sport 2 Asymmetrical (the one on the right).
