Default Back in the Saddle

Well I've completed the upgrade from my 98A8 that was totaled on Jan 24th to a 02-S8. There is a huge difference in ride, breaking, transmission and power. It took a tree to seal the deal.

There are a couple of things I need to make the transaction complete. Can you guys advise?
1. I need a jack. I think I have the other tools, but for some ******* reason... No jack.

2. The drivers side door is not engaging perfectly. I can see some wear/damage on the top-side of the latch on the b-pillar. From what I can see the hinge looks fine. Any thoughts?

Default Welcome to the S8 owners club, nice upgrade! answers...

1. From what's been posted here, the factory jack aint worth jack. Get one from the Pheaton and negotiate w/ the seller.

2. Have the seller fix the door to your satisfaction, and if he won't do it tell him you're suspicious it's been in a wreck and to deduct another $5k for starters. Unless he has a bunch of other buyers lined up, you should get his attention.

Good luck closing the deal, and post more pics!

Default Congratulations and a little envy as well.

Being an owner of a 99 A8, my goal is the D2 S8. You are already there. Good for you.

Default There have been some S8's that needed the door fixed

Usually need a shim behind the hinge.

Default almost guarantee it was hit in the door or the door was overextended and poorly repaired

I saw one in a dealer showroom once that was one of the worst repair jobs ever. The sleazy (of course) salesman swore up and down it had not been touched and was perfect. I looked him in the eye and said "I don't buy cars from liars". And walked out.

The thing was markedly crooked looking from 10 feet away and did not close/open properly. That was an 03 with 10k miles in the dealership in Seattle (U-district) and the salesman was Ukrainian or something. Stay away :P

Default There were a bunch of S8's from the factory with this problem

If you searched the forum, you would find new owners reporting this problem.

Default You can adjust the strike plate

Check the forum for the procedure. I did mine and it took about 10 minutes. IF the door is misaligned, that's a different animal.

Default Thanks everyone..

Upon reading the A4 posts and further inspection of the door. Its the window frame that needs to be adjusted. The striker plate is now in perfect engagement, though was out of align at one time.
There was no accident...unless the body shop cloned an original. So this is just poor fastening.

Taking apart a door makes me nervous...Though the dealer option doesn't sound appetizing either. I'll probably get a price from a local body shop.. and if its too $$ high, I'll tackle this spring.
