Been away for a while. Any recent transmission revelations?

If it's the fluid in there causing problems...
why does changing parts outside the transmission, e.g. a MAF sensor, change the hunting behavior, at least for a few days? Why do 2000 and later cars seem not to hunt regardless of mileage?
Do Dexron III fluids such as Mobil 1 ATF cure hunting or mask it (maybe by making the converter clutch lock up more smoothly)? Read older threads for background on how the deliberately slipping torque converter clutch -- a recent development in automatics -- may call for non-Dexron fluids in this and Aisin transmissions so equipped.
The obvious imperfections of ZF engineering and/or integration of the transmission into the car do not mean that the LT 71141 requirement is specious.
Barring new information, or 100,000 miles of durability testing by braver people, I don't know enough to recommend using Dexron in this transmission.
