While I was changing my brake pads I contemplated where the best, most secure point to place jack stands. Paul you elude to an area during your brake pad procedure on Audipages but I was unsure exactly were that location was. Do you have any clearer pics or can you describe the best point. I am currently simply using a large floor jack that should have no problem supporting the A8 however I would like to be able to lift both sides up at once using floor stands. Anyone have any suggestions....I don't want to put it in a bad place and either kill myself or bend expensive suspension or underbody parts.
Thanks,
G. Hart

I hadn't put in a back jackstand, on that pic.

Of course, as JimR just mentioned there are the jacking points, I placed the stands under the 4" round steel plates that are directly in towards the motor from the center of the tire and rim.
Looks like a motor mount but it isn't, as there are two more in the rear of the car. These points worked great for the brake job. If I get a chance I will post a photo for you later. BTW, the rear spot is more towards the rear of the car and more directly in from the trailing edge of the rear fender well. Hope this helps.

OK, I am not afraid to go where no dummy has gone before ...
could somebody post or point to a procudeure with pictures of where to raise the car with the floor jack so that you can get a jack stand in the place you want it?
What I mean is this: JimR's picture shows a floor jack in the rear of the car. What if that is where I would like to put a jack stand? It's not like you can raise the car in the same place you want to put the jack stand.
On my BMW's I used to raise the car in the middle of the body on the side I wanted to work on and then put jack stands under the jacking points. That can't possibly be the prefferred way of doing things, but it hasn't gotten me killed yet.

as described in my other post.
They work, though, and appear more than structurally adequate. Hell, these things are so stout, you could probably support them anywhere that looked halfway reinforced. I wouldn't but you get what I mean.
