Hi all,

I'm new here... I just bought a 2001 S8 with about 54k miles. The car runs great, etc. but last night the CEL came on and has stayed on since. The car still drives the same as before (perfect).

Any common causes of a CEL on the S8? Any easy way to reset the light without Vag-Com?

If you intend to work on this car you need the VAG-COM,in this case first you need to know what's the reason for the CEL to come on,see if somebody from this forum lives close to you and can help,it could be something simple to fix.

Probably a thousand reasons for the CEL, a code reader will tell you what it wants, or VAG-COM.

Pull the codes with VAG COM. Find a nice person willing to volunteer time for now, buy VAG COM for the future. Believe me, you will use it a lot. It would only take 3 or 4 trips to the dealer for just codes being read to pay for itself. You should never just clear it to be rid of it. pepboys sells a OBDII code reader/clearer for something like $80 or so i hear. I need to get one. FYI...get used to your CEL...Audis love to come on.

I had an opportunity to put a deposit on that car after Fathers Day. I called days before when the ad came out.
