Default Brake Dust

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/1999/jowens//jowens_1999_audi_a8.jpg"></center><p>My aftermarket rims show a lot of dust! Help.

I'm tired of cleaning them vigoursly every week. And I'm affraid of using any "cleaners" or "protectors" because of the clear coat.

Is the factory brake system excessively dusty? Are there any alternative recommendations?

Default Yes, it's the factory pads...

as far as cleaning your rims, I recommend the Wheel Cleaner liquid from Griots Garge. It has been approved by BSS and contains no harsh chemicals that will affect the clearcoat on your wheels. There are plenty of pads out there that can offer lower dust output and probably better braking. Mintex Red Box comes to mind .... check with 2bennett.com.
I think the link I've indicated will take you to the wheel & tire care products page at Griot's website but if not just go to griotsgarage.com it will be easy to find it.
P.S. your car looks great, but I guess you know that.<ul><li><a href="http://www.griotsgarage.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/products_on_line_fs.htm?L+mystore+vubn6950+9836718 70">http://www.griotsgarage.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/products_on_line_fs.htm?L+mystore+vubn6950+9836718 70</a</li></ul>

well I checked the link and it doesn't take you right to the product but when that webpage loads, on the left side, just scroll down to car care products and click on "wheels and tires".
I just noticed your post about torque off the line. I have found that the left foot FIRMLY on the brake with the right foot very slightly pushing on the accelerator to load up the torque converter helps in this situation but don't do it if you have never driven a stick or other wise think you might confuse one foot for the other. It doesn't take much on the accelerator pedal to load to converter so light & easy is the key. And don't do it unless you really need to hop on it from a dead start. Once in a while is ok but doing it every time you feel like blasting off the line will most likely result in premature transmission failure.

Default Re: Brake Dust

Thanks for the input guys. I will heed your advice.

I'm familiar with the "power braking" concept -- have used it a couple times while at play, but would perfer a better solution. :-)

I'm creating a new thread about the ECU right now.

Thanks again for the input and comments.

I hear a thin coat of vaseline on the wheels prevents brake dust from showing
