Brake issue

When I first start up the car and back down the driveway the brakes dont engage well until the pedal is pushed much farther than normal, very swishy and an unsettling feeling. After that operation is normal and stopping power is outstanding.
Any thoughts, has anyone else experienced this?
FYI, I don't have any brake light indicators on showing a thin pad etc..

It sure won't hurt if you bleed all new fluid into your system.
I've done it twice this year (first time in my life that I've done it myself) and it's easy.
I think I had air in my system during Road America last year....and it got so hot (the brakes) that I think it put everything over the edge.
I also think that when pads are at maximum thickness (or at least 3/4 of that) that your brakes work best. Worn brake pads that are 1/4 of their original thickness never work as well.
I figure it's something to do with how much the piston is out of its cylinder plus less material to absorb the heat.

The Stoptech Procedure is the "old" 2-man procedure. Many of us now use the Motive Power Bleeder, which only requires one person and also does a good job. I agree that bleeding should be the first thing to try with your problem.
