Okay, I am heading on a road trip this summer to the East Coast and what your opinion on a bra or clear coating. Since my car has a few of the standard very small rock pits on the front end already, I don't think the 3M clear would be a good choice. A bra on the other hand can be bad for the paint. What are your experiences with either? Has anyone had the clear put on after the car was already old enough to have a few pits on the front? Thanks for your input!

Hi there,
I am in Crystal, MN. GOod to see another MN A8 owner.
I am in a process of ordering the bumper guard(#M X-Pel). I already have one for the hood, front nose, headlights and mirrors. I already had a rock chips but I did fill in and touched up with touch up paint, than used Denka to remove access paint to flush the finish. Looks good.
A8 has such a nice line, I hate to see that line braking with ugly black bra. But this is just me having Pearl White.

My 97 was prepitted and the first Twin Cities winter without a bra didn't help. Until, and if, it gets a repaint it wears the bra every winter.
A quality bra with a good fit doesn't scratch because it doesn't move. The ones flapping down the road are a result of false economy ("but it was $20 cheaper"). Mine's a Colgan. I leave it on all winter (my bad) and it always scares me in the spring when it comes off with a little subtle hazy paint discoloration as an apparent result of trapped moisture. It takes a month for the paint to clear up but it always does (so far).
On my bride's new (in 98) car we went with the clear 3M plastic. On a new car that's definitely the way to go. Mine is too far gone to consider it.
Have a fun trip in a fabulous road car.

Did you do the hood, nose, mirrors and lights already? If so, did you apply yourself? I had another vehicle I used the Xpel kit on and it had some awkward angles and wasn't the easiest to apply. If you did it, I would love to see it on your car; maybe a get together is in order? Any other Twin Cities A8's reading this? The regular bra is just the easiest and for the time, may be a good solution. I do like the clear look though....
