Hello all,
I am fairly new to DIY Audi repair.
I have a 2002 A8L Quattro 4.2L. 130k miles.
my seat heater has been having problems recently. It gets extremely hot to the point where it burns through the seat leather and will melt my clothing.
On the setting labeled 1, The seat warmers would get extremely hot. Anything above that was almost unbearable.
The other day I tried to turn it on, and the seat heater along with the steering wheel heater don’t work.

any help would be appreciated as far as diagnosis or what might be some things that I need to check.

You need to replace the heater element in the seat.

do I have to disassemble the seat for this?

Absolutely.
Buy a set of hog ring pliers and a couple dozen rings. You'll need that to get it back together. It's not difficult.
Years ago I did a write up on changing the element in a urS car, and if you can find that it will help. A close second is this article on adding heated seats to an A4. Scroll down to where GBW adds the heater elements to the seats.
