odd i say.... today was about 82degrees and the driver side a/c (i had it set to LO) was blowing warm air (i'd say about low to mid 70s).. but the passenger side (also set to LO) was cool.. though not cool enough (felt about 67 or so)
any ideas??

did it get cold on both sides after a few minutes? If so then all you need is a recharge.
If not then you need to check the flap motors that change the temperatures. Do you have Vag Com?

i did notice that if i lowered the fan speed the driver side got cooler but still not as cool as the passenger side.
can the recharge be done with one of those recharging kits that are found in the auto parts stores??? is it difficult??

The car cannot be recharged because there is no LOW side port. You must go to your local mechanic and have then charge it via the high side. They will know what to do.
From what i experienced when the a/c system gets low the refrigerant cannot completley fill cooling chambers at full pressure.

I tried it. I unscrewed the pin and then retrofitted it with a standard R-134 fill plug and recharged it with a Universal recharge kit.
If anyone wants to try, please make sure to de-pressurize the system before removing the pin. You can get the new fill plug and the tool to remove the pin at any parts store for about 10 bucks.
I am refering to pre-facelift cars as the one drive is '99. I am not sure about 00 and up.
