Default Can someone shed some more light on the clogged drain/leaking issue?

I just purchased a 98' 4.2 with 85K although I haven't picked it up yet. It will be my 8th Audi quattro and it will be replacing my 04' S4 Avant (long story). Despite spending significant time selling Audis in the Boston area (I live in San Diego right now), I hadn't heard about this problem until recently from a former co-worker who is the service manager at the store where I worked. He mentioned that he had seen it quite a few times recently. Is this problem something that will happen to all D2's given the "right" conditions (debris such as leaves causing clogs combined with rain/melting snow)? How many of you out there have been affected? The thought of wet carpets, wet feet and mold isn't a nice one. It hardly ever rains in SD and I have a garage, but I do travel to ski country frequently in the winter. I assume removing the plugs will rectify this, I just want to be sure. TIA! And yes, I'm going to do the Timing Belt and Tranny Fluid ASAP!

Default I am a victim :)

I had wet carpets and swishing water sounds. After using my air comperessor i blew out the lines and i had a nice pile of crap. Looked like crumpled up leaves.

Default I was as well.

Air compressor to all four drains, and I found cement(ish) looking chunks.

This is a easy fix. Let's not blow this out of proportion

I just bought my '00 A8 a couple of months ago. The first time I ran it through a car wash, I had the same problem. Turn left, water came in on the passenger side floor, turn right, water came in on top of my feet. Two turns total, 4 to 6 ounces water each time. The dealer charged me $21 to diagnose and unplug the four cowl drains. Ran it through the same car wash last weekend and the problem is indeed gone.

Default Re: Four Cowl Drains?

There are four sunroof drains. The cowl drains are in the front wheelwells, one per side.
