Default Has it done that to you?

I've had my car up to about 135 indicated (which is probably about 130 MPH) and it didn't shut down. Did yours?

Default Yes ...

.
I believe that most/all of the "chips" for 4.2 disable the speed limiter, besides adding a few hp.

<A HREF="http://www.upsolute.com/database/english/sheets/67.html">UPsolute</a>, <A HREF="http://www.wetterauer.de/chiptuning/datenblatt.php?id=67">Wettenauer</a>, <A HREF="http://www.mtmonline.de/English/A8/a8_300.htm">MTM</a>, and probably <A HREF="http://www.giacusa.com/">GIAC</a> all have these chips.

I thought the speed limiter was set at 155 mph.

Default 131 was as fast as it would go.....

the owners manual says that it is limited to 128 so I assumed that is speedo error at that speed. Had pedal left then felt a loss of speed same as in my SHO when I was pushing up against the limiter.

Different tires on A8's versus S8, the A8's have lower speed limiter.

Default Mine is gone.

My 98 was limited to 130, computer shut the fuel/spark off and that was it. Sent my ECU to PES for a chip and with that came 20 ponies, more torque through the band, and the speedo looking at 170. Has worked well with 00011 coding leaving the fuel at 22-23 mpg on the freeway.

Do you notice a big difference in HP with the chip? Few of us have it.

Default Notice more torque than HP

Car pulls better from the start and is more responsive. The 22 HP gain claim by PES is found arround redline. Not sure how the torque curve looks or the gains.
PES did promise that the learning software of the stock computer will not affect chip performance months down the road (problem with some chips?, see link).
If anyone has purchased or decides to purchase the PES chip let me know how it works. Love to see it on the dyno.

At link click on chips then Learn more about chips in purple.<ul><li><a href="http://www.pes-tuning.com/oldsite/index.html">http://www.pes-tuning.com/oldsite/index.html</a</li></ul>

My new L has the optional 18" Z rated tires, so does that mean the limiter is set higher??

I had a '97 Z28 that had the same circumstance and the limiter was deleted at the factory.
