Default There's no doubt that a shorted/skewed tps could cause drivability problems.

My experience with the tps circuit on other manufacturers didn't shut down the computer like that. I cannot speak for Audi.

Default I have three options... What to do, what to do...

1. Stick with the indy shop where it is & pay $900 + labor for fuel pump and $350 + labor for TPS.

2. Tow to nearby Audi dealer & pay $650 for pump & $280 for TPS + labor. Indy tech says dealer will want to re-diagnose for $200+. 28 miles away + $?? towing.

3. Tow to my local indy shop & pay $557 for pump and $243 for TPS + labor. Likely minimal diagnostics, but... 88 miles away & $300+ towing?

Almost from a "principle of the thing" perspective, I don't want to use the first indy shop because they markup above dealer. Should've had the damn thing towed to dealer in first place.

Default Why don't you check the fuel pump relay. It is under the carpet on the passenger's side behind the

wood cover. Turn the ignition on and if you hear it buzzing for 1 second, the relay is good. Open the trunk, have someone to turn the ignition on and listen for the pump. You can loose the fuel line next to the throttle body and see if it pours fuel. You can do all of this in 10 minutes and if it works you just saved $1000. Fuel pumps are tough, they don't die easy. If they do, usually during start up because of the high pressure, not when the car is running.

Default Well, if you're really brave and not far from home, I'd ask those here that have

sourced and replaced their own fuel pump for advice. I bet it's easy to take out thru the trunk plate. TPS also shouldn't be that hard to put on. That's assuming you trust their diagnosis and your ability to do the job safely/correctly..

Default Tech said he had power & ground at the last point on the wires he could reach...

without taking the pump out. Is there anything between (the likely location of) said point and the pump? Tech said -- according to his wiring diagram -- that this should be AFTER the relay and clean all the way to the pump.

Could there be any fuse or anything else involved?

I'm also wondering if he can't just bench-test the pump after he pulls it. Yes, I'd be out 3 hrs. labor, but that is better than the extra $600 to $900 (parts, depending on shop) for a new pump.

This is exactly what happened to me when I bought my car and it was the FP relay.

I just read through all your posts - I would swap the relay first. Rule that in/out in 5 mins.

Tech says power in wires headed to pump. Isn't that past the relay?

Default yes, I would think so but not 100% sure. Might be worth a quick swap with another relay just to...

be sure. I don't want to lead you down the wrong path but it WAS the issue for me and left me stranded too.
