my front tires are in need of replacement very soon... but for the past 2months it seems as the car is pulling more and more to the left.. my steering wheel now points at about 2 o'clock just to keep the car straight
there is vibration that comes through the steering wheel and sometimes when i make a U-turn it feels as if the tires are buckling (???)
it's probably time for an alignment, but what about the tie/control arms?? how much do they play into bad alignment..... weren't the tie rods/control arms recalled in the past on the A8??? i swear they were replaced about 50k ago.. how long do they typically last
final mention about the tires.... they are severely worn on the outside edges of both front tires (only have 20k miles on these[new last august]) but the rear tires still have about 20% tread on them [3yrs old], and are wearing quite even.

Are any of the brake calipers sticking? Try braking hard, then drive around 1-2 miles, get out, and see if one of the wheels is really hot to the touch. Or does one of your wheels have A LOT of brake dust on it? If so, you have a sticking caliper.
Make sure you get a proper 4 wheel alignment when you replace the tires. Good starting point.
Make sure your tie rod ends are not loose. This would normally make it feel like it is ruts on the highway, pulling left and right.
The car should track absolutely perfectly with a good alignment.

almost like a warped rotor, but it is ONLY occasional (now...my wife's previous minivan...now that shook like crazy on each braking, until the rotors were replaced)
the car only pulls to the left
the outer edges of both front tires are very worn, not yet to the belt level, but probably pretty close

I had this issue when I bought my car, did an allignment and nothing happened, then I checked the tires, they had different thread depth not by match but enough to feel a slight pull to the left. I put four new tires and that was it.

until you replace those tires. They could come apart on you on the freeway at any time. I have plenty of experience with this.
