CEL is on. Took it into the dealership and they said it needs a driver side pre cat and quoted me $1200. Has anyone experienced this issue? I believe the pre cat's are on the header pipe that comes down from the block.
Is there a cheaper alternative? DEC makes catalytic converters for audi's for about $400 but i'm not sure if it also comes with a pre-cat pipe or just the main cat that goes under the car. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks.

makes an aftermarket converter. I had mine rebuilt for around $250 re-using the stainless OEM pipes.

The fit was perfect but I have been plagued by an intermittent CEL which is fairly common (at least on Audis) with aftermarket CATS. I just got a machined block last week which installs between the CAT and o2 and so far has done the trick (no light).

The driver side would be very easy to do because the connection point is very accessible compared to the pass side.

I got a good cat off a lo mile 98 A8. Maybe $175 bucks shipped.

Amazing that they sell em used, with liability and environmental laws. A used cat could leak and kill ya boo hoo but why pay 1200 that's absurd audi thievery
