Changing brake pads on a '99 A8

Hi guys,
I'm swapping out the brake pads for the first time on my '99 A8. According to TireRack there are two different types of pads for that year, the ones I need are for models built before 8/99 (CH# 4D-Y-005 000).
I have two questions:
Which pads are recommended most around here for normal road use? I won't be using them for tracking, but they'll see some moderate aggressive road use. Also, my roommate thinks there is a chance that I'll need a special tool to unmount the e-brake assembly on the rear calipers. Can anyone confirm if this is or isn't the case?
Thanks!

Hello,
I liked the stock brake pads. Good combination of dust and performance. Little squeal, decent life.
Regarding the rears, you do need a special tool. It's not for the e brake, it is to compress the piston back into the cylinder. Unlike the front, the rear piston must be rotated so that it retracts. The tool has '****' that fit into the cylinder. You can buy the tool pretty cheapy. If you can rent a good for a few bucks you are better off with that. If not, buy the cheap tool and struggle with it.
Good luck,
Barry
