Default Child seats

I know this question will bore a great deal of you, but has anyone had any experience installing a child safety seat in the '97 - '03 A8? I like Britax, but hear they are absolutely huge, and since the A8 isn't king in the rear seat legroom dept...

Feel free to reply off forum.

Thanks!

Default I have Britax, in the A8 it works great in forward or rear

facing. Rear facing only affects the seat travel if you try to go all the way back. Forward facing is no issue at all, and can still fit two adults in rean if need be.

Why not Recaro, might look nice in the Audi?

Not knowing how big your child is, I can't be definitive, but all seats sold in the US must be compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213. That being said you need to pick on the seat that meets your individual requirements. You will find that the Aft (Rearward) facing seat will intrude forward.

Also check to make sure the seat is rated for Aircraft use, a good thing for inflight use, and keeps the child in a more familiar surrounding.

Things to look out for, once they meet your requirements, sharp edges on the bottom of the child seat that may damage your interior. Unfortunately I do not believe that 00 A8s had the Lower Anchorage and Tethers for Children (LATCH) which is the best way to install child seats, so you will have to apply eye popping pressure, knee in the seat with your weight on it winching it down. If you have a tether on the seat use it. The more firmly the seat is attached, the lower the accident force that is felt by the child. If you want to get into the physics or other such mundane engineering discussions just let me know.

Congratulations on the baby, please use the middle seat in the back.

I have a 2000 A8L and have a basic Baby's-R-Us Evenflow which works great. I met a guy though who owns Eurotechnik in Norwalk, CT and he had a Porsche child deat in his RS6 that was pretty nice if you want something real fancy.

Default Cosco-Alpha Omega

Cosco Alpha-Omega works great in my A8. Fits perfectly, and matches the black interior of my A8. Not too big - has latch and rear tether strap. You can buy it Target, Walmart or ToysRus for about $129. I found the Britax to be too big and bulky. Also, check with your insurance company - they sometimes pay for car seats. I know USAA does!!!!
