Cluster LCD 2000-03

What can the instrument cluster LCD in an 00-03 display that a 97-99 can't?
Is it a color LCD?

Does the 00-03 cluster work in a 97-99?
Just curious...

It won't work

It doesn't interface the same way, the 00 and newer one works on a CAN bus system, the old one has discrete wires going to it.
