Coolant fquestion on A8 4.2 Quattro
Just had the cambelt and water pump changed at my local audi specialist, and i have noticed that the coolant is GREEN. I am sure i have read somewhere that AUDI coolant is red and that only AUDI fluid should be used. Opinions or Experiences please!!!

Bring it back, have them change it
It's not the right coolant, and it needs to be changed to the red stuff.
They need to open both drain plugs on the block and fill it with water a few times and drain it all out....or maybe they have some type of power flush system....it all needs to be drained out and replaced.
That sucks....

Red coolants are phosphate free which Audi recommends
and most green coolants have phosphates. The green coolant will cause premature corrosion inside your engine and cooling system.

Here's the warnings....it says it must be replaced immediately if mixed
The last thing is a table, so it's hard to reproduce, but it says on note 1 that if brown coolant is found because it's mixed, replace immediately!
---------------stealers are clueless---------------
Cooling system, draining and filling
Notes:
To avoid frost and corrosion damage, and to increase the boiling point of the coolant, the cooling system must be filled year-round with a mixture of antifreeze/anti-corrosion concentrate and water.
Vehicles produced up to 06.96 have used the coolant additive G11 A8C (color: green).
For vehicles produced from 07.96, only the coolant additive G12-A8D TL 774D is used (color: red).
G12 permits a lifetime fill (coolant that uses G12 must also be replaced if it has been contaminated by oil or other foreign substances, e.g. damaged cylinder head gasket).
Recommended mixing ratio: 50:50
Cooling system capacity: approx. 9.0 liters (9.5 quarts)
CAUTION!
Coolant additives G11 and G12 cannot be mixed. Mixing them leads to severe engine damage.

Thanks Paul having discussions with them now,
they assure me that the coolant is ok, but as yet have not told me what make of cooant they have used. Interesting that your post says that pre july 96 cars use G11 which is green. The coolant in my car is green so i wonder if that it what has been used, if so it is correct as mine is a 96 car registered November 95.
