Coolant Leak

Hello all,
Some comfort needed! I spotted some coolant leaking from beneath my car and I got the car over a pit and the only place that I can see water dripping from is between the Engine and the gearbox. You can see water up inside the bellhousing yet all the pipes up above look okay.
Has anybody had anything like this that they can tell me that it is only a small inexpensive pipe instead of telling me that a core plug has gone!
Please give me some comfort!
Many Thanks
Jonathan

There are coolant lines that run on the back of the engine. One in particular carries coolant around from the back of the engine to the oil cooler mounted on the front passenger side of the engine block underneath the exhaust manifold. You will need to remove the air intake to be able to examine the passenger side. If you use a mechanics angled mirror and a light, it might help to see what is leaking.
Good luck, let us know what you find

Hi Jonathan. I have a 99 and I just experienced same thing. It started with a very very slow dripping leak. and progressed slowly. I drove the car for about 1 month till it was finally addressed.
Don't know if you have the same prob. But it sounds like it.
There is an transmission cooler that has a small plastic tube that tends to fail. Look a week back in the forum and you can get a better explanation. Basically this little tube cracks in 1/2 or along the side and starts slowly leaking.
If this is the problem, you are in for $$ or pounds in your case.
the part itself was about 40$ at Audi Dealer in US> The actual labor was 6hrs. (dealer rate 100$/hr). I do have extended warranty and it covered it all! It could have been much worst though.
Good luck.
DENNIS

If it is a transmission cooler, that is a new problem I've not encountered before. The 6 hours for labor sounds about right for the oil coller plastic tube replacement, and the oil cooler tube is a known problem on this forum.
