Coolants leaking part II

Coolants leaking part II
after checking the ever-helpful audipages, i've determined that the leaking is as described by the http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/oilcoolerremovalreinstall.html
now, i am certainly not going to take the vehicle into a shop to get this done at over $1000. and i don't feel like doing this myself either, since it's not leaking like a river.
my question is... is the leak gonna get worse? will it "give out" at some point; causing a cooling failure? i am just planning on adding the coolant as needed until i finally get a different car.
do i have to goto the audi/vw dealer to get the pink stuff?
i heard the new prestone antifreeze coolants are compatible with "all" engines. not sure if "all" includes german cars though.

How bad is it? If you're filling it more than once a week, you're gonna have a trail of dead pets
around your neighborhood. I would try to fix it if you are certain of its location e.g. the oil cooler. My $0.02
