Default Cost of tranny service at the dealer

Local Audi dealer quotes $680 (parts & labor) to drain & replace tranny fluid in my '00 A8. Includes new filters, etc. Sound reasonable?

http://qu</a

Default NO- it doesn't sound reasonable.......

8 liters of fluid = $120
Filter and gasket = $54

That leaves over $500 for labor- for a 2 hour (maximum) job. $250 an hour is a little steep in my book........

Find someone else to do the job (right). Dealers screw these fluid changes up all the time. Take the procedure from Audipages to a good independant and get an estimate.

Default my dealer had a list price of ~279...

which is $100 more than a410225 (in the note in this thread) who is probably 5 miles away from me. But get a load of this. They changed my tansmission fluid first and then went on to replace the transmission in the same service call and then charged for both (didn't end up paying for the change, though). If you have a good non-dealer option, I'd head there in a second.

Default Agreed, and a key point:

The car needs to spend the night at the shop. Go up on the rack at the end of the day, get drained, then re-filled cold.

Default Indeed, but...

Ask them when they need the car. If they reply "in the morning", walk away! Then they don't know how to do it properly anyway...

Just a little test. ;-)
